Computer Science Schools

Hey, thanks for looking. Can you guys point out some schools that I might be interested in? Here are some things I'm looking for.

*I want to major in computer science, so the school should have a good CS department that will allow me to specialize in programming. Bonus if they offer game related courses.
*At least a decent art program, so that I can possibly minor (or even double major) in art.
*Location wise, I'm looking for somplace in California, Texas (Near Austin would be best, maybe Houston or Dallas), Chicago, or NYC.
*Not too hard to get into? If I raise my SAT I'll be fine for anywhere, but as it is now I only have a 1270. (I'm not stupid though, lol...near a 4.0 unweighted GPA, honors, AP...)
*Nice campus, dorms, food, etc would be really nice.
*Variety of student orginazations and intremurel sports, as well as varsity sports.

Thanks for all your help. If I think of anything else, I'll ammend the post.

They don't have the art you're looking for, but you might want to look into University of TX at Dallas.

Wisconsin, Washington-seattle, and UT Austin would fill the bill well.

Harvey Mudd College in Claremont. It's a bit tough to get into, but the CS program is top-notch, and you are required to have a Humanities "concentration" (four courses in a particular discipline), which you can do in art.

i believe carnegie mellon is top for computer science. it's in PA but i strongly believe academics is more important than anything else. i think cmu is a great fit becuase it has an awesome art department as well. plus its relatively easy to get into compared to the schools ranked above it. i think the food and dorms are pretty good but don't expect to find spectacular sports there lol.

Less selective than CMU is Rochester Institute of Technology. Good comp sci and good computer graphic design/art program. Nice facilities. Not in NYC however.

There is no way that CMU, UW-Seattle, or Harvey Mudd will accept a 1270 SAT scorer.

California has the UC's. Texas: UT Austin would be a stretch and the other Texas schools aren't that great. Chicago: Same thing with Northwestern and Chicago. NYC: same thing with Columbia, maybe try NYU.

"There is no way that CMU, UW-Seattle, or Harvey Mudd will accept a 1270 SAT scorer."

One of my fellow 09 Mudders had a 1260 SAT score.

The average at Udub is about 1200.

With a near 4.0 UW GPA and 1270 SAT, your AI should be high enough to get in UW-Seattle in the first round.

Doesn't UW have stiff competition for CS spots? http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/uw12.shtml

Yes, but that's after two years for 90% of the students.

MegaMuffin:

I would recommend UCB and UCLA, but they'd be reaches out of state.

Thanks guys. I just upped my score to a 1320, if that matters much. And I kind of want to stay in a school that is somewhere near Ohio now. I mean, if you still have some good suggestions, I'd appreciate it. I gotta apply soon, but I could use a few more schools. My list right now looks like:

CMU
Cornell
UT Austin
UIUC
Some safety school in Ohio...either Case or OSU

I'd like to see a couple more match schools on that list, or even some more reach ones, whatever. I was kind of sad when u said that there is no way the schools would take someone with a 1270 SAT...I'm really a great student all around. Like, I know myself, and I could do great at any college, it's just a matter of them accepting me.

I'm ranked 1 in my class of 317--that is a new update as well.

Anyway, thanks again!

I've got my list. There is like 10 schools. So thanks, but disregard from now on.
