Computer Science student from CSULB transfer to UCI

I’m a sophomore Computer Science student in CSULB (third semester). During the time I studied here I heard a lot of bad things about our Computer Science department (like graduate cannot find job with CSULB degrees.) I’m thinking of transferring to UCI. Should I transfer back to community college then to UCI? Please tell me if it is worth it.

Its a little late to transfer to CC since you would need to apply by the end of this month. UCI probably doesn’t require too many prereqs, so check Assist.org to find out if you have completely any. The biggest thing is definitely going to be GPA and making sure that you have 60 units worth of courses that at least appear as though they would transfer. If you have a good GPA then it is at least worth a shot.

Worst case scenario, keep in mind that most graduates that want to pave the way for a good career ahead of them will be attending grad school this day in age. To many CSU students in particular are convinced that they will just be able to walk into the market with only a bachelors degree and all will be well. So if you do still end up at CSULB next fall, then work hard and grab an internship or two along the way and attend a UC or USC for graduate school. Where you receive your final degree is the only university name that matters.

At the end of Spring 2016, I will have 60 units but only 40 of them are transferable. Should i transfer as a sophomore. UCI seems accepts sophomore transfer student.

You need 60 UC-transferable semester units and transfer as a junior. There are a few rare times when a less popular major might accept lower than 60, but basically don’t expect it. It is so rare as to be basically not happening. And 40 units is pretty darn low.

And this is for CS? Forgetaboutit.

CC is the way to go if you’re dead set on transferring to UCI. Granted, you’d have to maintain a high GPA.

But would the UC’s even see you are at a CC when applying (this month?) since currently the OP/student is enrolled at a CSU. How does that work–attending the CC for just that last semester (coming up in Jan-May) before being potentially admitted? In same boat of considering going to a CC and trying to transfer to a UC or OOS school for Fall 16. Any thoughts?

You need 30 UC-transferable units from a CCC to get the community college priority consideration. Transferring for one term will do you no good, so you should just stay where you are.

And they know because you need to list current college.
