Computer science/technology courses?

Hello:

My daughter loves anything computers: coding, programming, designing videos, gaming, etc. We are looking at boarding schools now for next year - she'll be a freshman. Is anyone aware of a school that has strong computer science offerings in addition to more traditional courses? She's an A student who scored above average in Math on the SAT's as a 7th grader. She is less strong in English and writing. Thanks!

Exeter does

Concord Academy has an actual Computer Studies Department and lists 7 courses in the course catalog. We were very impressed with Concord although my children did not attend there in the end.

Computer courses were something we kept in mind in our selection process and it was surprising how many very good schools have rather few CS courses and an actual CS department seemed rare.

Great, thanks. Yes, that’s what we’re finding. Oh well, I guess we’ll wait for college (or summer camp!).

I have a Concord Academy freshman interested in technology/visual art. This is definitely a strength of CA. For courses that might interest your daughter, look under both Computer Studies and Visual Arts departments in the CA course catalog: http://www.concordacademy.org/academics/CourseCatalogue1213.pdf

My C is currently in Film making I (CA has 5 film making courses!), which is somewhat repetitive for C, after taking several summer film making / digital arts courses over the last few years. However, C thinks the world of the teacher, the visual arts department chair.

Feel free to PM me, if you like.

Wow, interesting. CA wasn’t on our radar because of the distance but we may look into it now. Sounds like a wonderful school. Thanks for the information.
