Computer Science Transfer without Physics

Hey I was wondering how likely it is to get in to a UC school without having the physics series done as a computer science major? Has anyone gotten in without completing physics. On Assist it says to finish all the 3 physics classes.

I’m pretty sure that students do not have to complete IGETC in order to be admitted to a UC. I think you can take General Chemistry I instead, and it will transfer with the same amount of units/credits as Physics (general physics with calculus). However, I think IGETC is designed to pick the “optimal courses,” so that you’re able to graduate in 2 years after transferring. I’d look for the undergrad program at the UC you’re applying to and scan all of the pre and co-requisites related to those physics courses to be sure. Also, it may vary depending on the major. i.e comp sci. vs comp sci. eng.

I don’t think he’s talking IGETC, he’s talking major courses. Um, if it says they need to be completed they need to be completed. Is it required or recommended? Often they will say once you start you must finish at the CCC or will have to do them all over again at the UC.

As you did not give information, such as which UC you are talking about, there’s not much guidance anyone can give. UCLA requires completion. It clearly says **required ** in bold at the top. Each UC has its own rules. I suggest you read those for each UC.

If it’s simply recommended, the more you complete, the more competitive an applicant you are.

What UC are you planning to transfer to?
UC Irvine is the only UC school that does not require any physics courses since computer science is separate from the engineering department.

I plan on going to UCLA or UCI either one

Will UCLA reject me if I spend 4 years in completing all the requirements needed to transfer I already did two years would two more hurt?

If you take 1 course per semester (Basic Physics, Mechanics, ElectroMagnetism) you won’t be meeting their TAG requirement because you’re not going to be a full-time student at your CC when you apply… And since you can transfer less than 80 units, if you take more classes to fulfill their requirement, then you won’t be able to transfer them.

If you’ve got the GPA maybe you can get accepted at UCI?
