I am looking to transfer to a UC next Fall (hopefully) as a CS Major. I'm not quite sure what schools I should be looking into, originally looking into UCI but not sure on my chances...

I will have all of the math and science pre-req's finished, but I can't seem to find much information on what other GE stuff I should have finished. And what schools should I be looking into?

I've tried my schools website (PCC), UCI's site and assist.org and all just mention the math and science requirements along with English 1A and Philo 33. Are there any other requirements?

GPA is currently 3.4ish (mainly low due to my first two semesters...), and I have plenty of work experience (PHP, Java, JavaScript, XHTML, CSS).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

B.S. through UCI school of engineering requires only a limited number of GE courses. Thus, UCI does not require GE coursework for transfer to CS major. Here is the link where you can find out how many GE courses you need to take, if you want to take those in PCC to save money.

[computer science and engineering degree sample curriculum @ the bren school of information and computer sciences](Undergraduate Academic Advising - UC Irvine Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences)

Thanks, any other schools I should be looking into?

a 3.4 GPA is fine for UCI

You should take a look at the UC stat finder and check whether you may get into UCLA or Cal with your GPA.

I’ve tried to play around with the UC Stat finder, but can’t seem to get it to display what I want. It always just displays the cumulative GPA after graduation…

You should try to apply for other schools too. Originally I wanted to go UCI but they rejected me…and I’m only missing 2 classes on the assist page
But I got accepted by UCSD, and I need take around 5 more classes
GPA 3.2, stupid physics prof lost my final -_-

Because you’re not choosing the right options. Cal EECS admits roughly 10% of applicants with GPA between 2.6 annd 3.6. UCLA engineering admits roughly 50% of applicant with GPA between 3.4 and 3.6. So, you may be quite competitive for UCLA, but probably not for Cal, though I would still apply to both. Don’t forget to complete TAP.

Thanks for the info, the only TAP program that my school has with UCLA is the scholars program though, is this what you were referring to?

But I will most definitely apply to UCLA.

Yes, TAP is your college honors/scholar program, whatever it is called. It gives priority consideration for L&S applicants. EVen though it does not give the same benefits for engineering, completed honors program endorsement is always nice to have and may be the factor that would bump you from rejects into admits.

Ok, I’ll try and see what I need to do to get into that program.

I noticed most of the TAP class’ my school has aren’t requirements for any of the UC’s, should I take them anyway just to possibly stand out?

go to any uc, and pretty much any cal state. for engineering majors you either get it or you dont. it doesnt matter where you go, what matters is that you learn how to program

we may go to different schools, but we’ll both know what copy constructors, virtual inheritance, segfaults and member initialization lists do for us, when we get our degrees
