I have been accepted to both, but I am having a hard time deciding.

Don't base it on the school itself, but on the Computer Science program. Thank you.

Don't base it on the school itself, but on the Computer Science program. Thank you.

For computer science i would probably recommend UF.

I had the same dilemma choosing between the two schools, but UCF was better for my major.

I am having a hard time because UF is obviously higher, ranking wise, but I am still in favor of UCF's Computer Science program. UF's website tells me barely nothing about the major, while UCF does.

Also, UF is not ABET accredited in Computer Science, and UCF is.

It seems like the obvious choice would be UF, since it is harder to get in to, but everything else is weighing towards UCF. I need some advice and additional input.

Have you tried emailing the department chair? Maybe they can give you the information you're looking for.

Both are good. It all depends on what you're really looking for (in your major, the college itself, location, etc). If you are leaning more towards UCF then go for it because it seems as if you would be more content in their computer science program.

Yes, UF is ranked higher. However, ranking doesn't necessarily means it's more suited for you.

I just emailed an academic advisor in need of more information on their program.

This is hard-- I don't want to make the wrong decision.

You have some time to give it some thought. Relax. I'm pretty sure you'll succeed no matter which one you choose.

Thank you, I appreciate your thoughts. I am hoping to make a decision during this 3 day weekend-- so I know if have to sign up for UCF orientation or not.

UF's Computer Science program is ranked 47th overall in the USA. Whereas UCF's program is not ranked at all. I think the quality of the faculty at UF will be 10 times better, and the quality of your classmates will be higher at UF. Also do not forget that UF has significantly more resources as well.

I think the obvious choice is UF (not even a question in my honest opinion).

UF has 2 CS programs, the one that is 126 credits long is from the college of engineering and I'm pretty sure is ABET

^ That particular program is ranked 37th overall.

Batman - according to the ABET website Computer Science is not accredited at UF. I emailed an academic advisor to verify that though.

Is anyone here a Comp. Sci. major at UF, or know of one?

Search - Computer Science - Best Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report
this proves they have a decent Grad CS program.
So their under grad program should be pretty good too. I don't know how old is their CSE program, but I'm pretty sure it can pass ABET accreditation sp. Especially since it is 126 hours.

I have reviewed every possible ranking-- but in reality it is just a number. Those rankings do not provide me with any information that I need to make my decision.

UF is ABET accredited in computer science.

ECE-UF ABET Accreditation Main Page

Why don't you just call someone at UF

He was referring to their computer science programs. That Computer Engineering program is their hardware one. They also have a software CEN program.

SSobick - That is not for Computer Science. According to the ABET website and UF's site Comp. Sci. is not on the list.

I don't think ABET accreditation is taken as seriously for CS as it is for engineering. I certainly do not think UF's CS program not having ABET accreditation is very important given even schools like Caltech don't have their CS programs accredited.

I wouldn't worry about it.

great post, gthopeful. Check out my thread on what school I should go to. I highly would appreciate your advice. Thanks. BTW it's in the engineering major forum.

Computer Science is offered in the College of Liberal Arts and Science, whereas Computer Engineering is offered by the College of Engineering and is correspondingly ABET accredited.

Pretty simple solution.
Call up the recruiter at a company you would wish to wrok for and ask them.

You may also want to research who comes to each schools job fairs.
