computer science uiuc vs georgia tech vs purdue

I am an international student from india and want to pursue B.S. in computer science. I have already got an acceptance from UIUC , Georgia Tech and Purdue. Kindly guide which one should I choose ? My Cornell and Michigan result is awaited.

Do you have any aid considerations? If not, go to Georgia Tech. It’s ranked as the no.1 school in CS (but of course, ranks are really not the way to go about picking a school. CMU, Stanford and MIT have well established CS programs too).

But if I were you and I got into Cornell. I’d pick Cornell over Georgia Tech. They have a very good program (definitely the best among the ivies).

There’s also the question of whether you want to live in a big city like Atlanta (plenty of good internships opportunities, I hear) or in a small university town.

I would choose Georgia Tech regardless of whether or not you are accepted to Cornell. The opportunities and resources available at Georgia Tech are hard to find elsewhere.

If you prefer to think about it numerically: Cornell has 50 CS faculty, Georgia Tech has 200. But they have about the same number of majors each year: ~100 at Cornell and ~150 at Georgia Tech, so you would not be more likely to get lost in the crowd at one place over another.

thanks for your views.I have been told that there is some concern about the safety on campus at georgia tech, specially because it is located in down town.also some people have suggested that the curriculum is very rigorous and campus life is dull in georgia.though good weather and smaller campus are plus point over uiuc.I thought that the CS programme at UIUC was ranked higher than geroegia.kindly advise.

I have this same decision now: UIUC vs Georgia Tech for CS. No Purdue here, though.

I’m curious where hectorbo got the “Georgia Tech #1 for CS” stat. I haven’t seen that anywhere, and it definitely seems inaccurate (while rankings are always ambiguous, I’m sure any good ranking would have at least MIT, Stanford, and CMU above Georgia Tech.) And most rankings I’ve seen actually rank Illinois above Georgia Tech.

Regardless, I’m not thinking much about the rankings as they really are ambiguous, so I’m still stuck in this dilemma.

i have finally decided for uiuc.got my confirmation from umass also.any sugesstions

The current CSA at Microsoft is Illinois alum. There are also many major tech companies founded by UIUC alum, such as Oracle, YouTube, or PayPal. UIUC will not disappoint.
