Computer Science — UMD vs RIT?

Narrowed the options down to two computer science programs: Univerisity of Maryland or Rochester Institute of Technology.

Been accepted at both and cost for us is similar. Now, we’d like to hear Pros and Cons of each.

UMD Pros:

  • Very known for its research and would highly benefit someone considering research in undergrad, especially possibly going for a Ph.D.
  • Great cybersecurity program and hard to beat connections

RIT Pros:

  • Co-op program is very robust there
  • Often better for students with more of an artistic kick in CS like game design or even UI/UX stuff
  • Very good with robotics as well if you know you’re leaning towards the hardware side

Both great options, congrats!

Not sure if/how this figures in, but do you have to apply for the CS major at these schools?

What field of CS does your child want to go into?
