Hey everyone, I am a senior going to Penn State next year and I was wondering if a computer science or communications/advertising major would be better. I am equally interested in both. I received no financial aid. Which major is generally considered “better”?
Better for what? For a job? For enjoyment? Better for advertising?
@Dunboyne For a job out of college/salary/job security?
FYI - communication. No “s”. Communications = technology, like telephone, cable. Communication = exchanging messages. It would be glaring to people in the field, like spelling “business” incorrectly on a resume.
@TQfromtheU I believe what he is referring to is Penn State’s College of “Communications,” which contains majors that span nearly the entire field, including advertising/public relations and telecommunications. (Which focuses on cable, telephone, etc.)
@NotSoSerious Thanks. LOL. My old journalism teacher would be livid. My school has School of Communication that covers all the same fields. Forgive me, @fball4711.
I have to go with the BS in computer science on that one. See if you can minor in CAS. On the other hand, a minor in computer science would benefit your resume if you decide to go with advertising/comm. With more research, you will probably favor one field or the other, as they’re pretty different offerings.
