Computer Science vs Electrical Engineering

Hey guys, I just had a quick question on whether is it easier to get into a college when applying for computer science or electrical engineering. I love both of the subjects, but I want to know which major is less impacted. My GPA is a 3.5 unweighted (kinda on the low side cuse I salcked off, but I did amazing 9th grade for some reason, though it doesn't count :(). Then my ACT score is a 34, I got a 790 is SAT 2 Math Level II and a 780 in Physics Subject Test. My weighted GPA is a 3.9(something). Finally My SAT breakdown is a
Reading: 710; Writing: 750, Math: 770.

Can you guys please give me your input on which colleges I should apply to out ofUC Irvine, UIUC Urbane Champaign, UC Santa Barbara, and Santa Clara University.

If you can, apply to all of them because why not. I wish I applied to more colleges but at least I got into my 1st :).

Apply to whichever program interests you more. Do not apply to the program just because it might be easier to get in. This is your life.

For UIUC, apply as computer science major because its extremely hard to transfer later on. I think you are in at UIUC because you have extremely high ACT score. 34 is above the 75th percentile even for engineering. Your SAT subject tests are also very strong. You should get into lots of top colleges.

Where are you instate?

Since you took the ACT I’m guessing you are in the Midwest somewhere and not CA. So cross the UC schools off your list. You can get the large class size and lack of attention for much less at your own state schools (or ones that have cross-enrollment agreeements with your state). Or, if you’re willing to fork out the $50K/year it takes for a UC, you can find a school with a much more welcoming undergrad environment.

Oh I am actually in california in the bay area close to cupertino. I also took the SAT and got a 2190 which I thought was not to good so I decided to take the ACT.

Yeah, 2200 is pretty bad. You only are in the 95th percentile…

You should get into all UC’s dude. Cal Poly SLO is great if you want to save money.

3.5 GPA unweighted with the better grades in 9th grade will make getting into many of the UCs and CPSLO difficult.

Be sure to check the net price calculators at the various schools and make sure that your parents are ok with the numbers they show.

Wait really do you think I have a chance at like UC Irvine cuse I slacked of in computer science and got a C(I feel like an idiot and my parents dont think I can get into any college which is also pretty discouraging :() though i love computer science. But other than that I had all a’s and b’s. Do you actually think Uc davis irvine or Sb is possible, cuse i heard its getting harder for computer engineering. I just wanna prove to my parents I can get into a pretty decent college.

Irvine really ? I was hoping a name somewhere around Davis or SB. Decent chance at Irvine, low chances at SB-engineering, 50-50 chance at Davis. Don’t worry too much, your ACT score should compensate for the low GPA. Unlike the UC’s, UIUC values both ACT and GPA equally. I say you have 80% chance of getting in at UIUC> I know people with 2200 SAT and 3.3 GPA, that got into UIUC.

Yea I guess my only hope is literally UIUC which is pretty decent I guess. I wish I never slacked LOL. It effects your whole life, for all the people out there reading dont make that same mistake…
