As I am going through the college application process I don’t know whether I should say computer engineering or computer science!
I am fairly interested in both the software and hardware aspect of tech.
I am a girl, so Im not sure if comp engineering would give me a better chance at getting in? please lmk
Don’t worry about admissions - both want more females. If anything, CS wants them more.
CS will not be working with hardware much at all. If you want to work with both, CE is likely your route.
There’s a lot more nuance here of course. What type of work would you want to do in an ideal world after graduation?
As a female in computer engineering I obviously have a bias towards computer engineering.
If you are interested in the hardware/physical aspect, I would recommend CE. You will most likely still have to take a bunch of CS classes, but they’ll balance out with electrical engineering classes so you’ll get both hardware and software.
I wouldn’t stress about it too much right now, they are similar enough that if you decide in the first couple years that you want to do the other, the switch won’t be too hard.
As for admissions, computer engineering does tend to be a little overlooked in comparison to computer science so it is possible that you’ll be competing with less people for a spot but I can’t say that for sure.
