Computer Science-where does it lie

i have heard that computer science lies in LAS and COE for some schools.
I have been looking into whether i will get in for computer scieence at purdue, wisconson uiuc minnesota and ohio state. GPA 4.2 UW 3,5
ACT 31
Does acomputer science lie under engineering or is it seperate. I live in illinois. Should i aim at appyling to the LAS or coe of computer science? Does it matter? Is it better to go for CS in LAS at uiuc or COE at a not as good school?
Am i a match for CS at minnesota or ohio state?

Some schools put CS in A&S, some put it in Eng’g. It just depends. Often the CS in Eng’g requires more Math.

What state do you live in?

Will your parents pay the high OOS costs at OOS publics? If you don’t know how much they’ll pay each year, ask them. Don’t assume, ask them. :)

These OOS schools may not be affordable if your parents won’t pay for them.

However, if your parents will pay the costs of any school, then super.

Computer science at UIUC is in the Engineering school…not LAS.

CS in engineering divisions is more likely to require physics courses; it is also more likely to be ABET-accredited if that matters to you (mainly for patent law).

CS in non-engineering divisions can be perfectly good (and typically is at big state-flagship-type universities), but some small schools have rather limited CS majors.

At some schools, there is the option to major in CS in either the engineering division or an arts/letters and science division.

For CSci at Minnesota, you can get a B.S. from the College of Science & Engineering or a B.A. from the College of Liberal Arts.

CS is in science department and not in the coe, if i researched correctly. How do selective do you think it will be? My chances?

Nope…it’s in engineering.

[Course Information Suite, Course Catalog, Class Schedule, Programs of Study, General Education Requirements, GenEd](http://provost.illinois.edu/ProgramsOfStudy/2011/fall/programs/undergrad/engin/about_engin.html#cs_bsms)

They offer a combined BS/MS engineering degree in computer science there too.

They’re fairly selective for CS…but they have an excellent CS department. I don’t really “chance” people…but you have stats that would be fairly competitive. Obviously it will be to your advantage to be strong in mathematics and physics.

Minimum GPA for acceptance is 3.5…so any improvement that you can make GPA wise would help.
