I’m a prospective comp sci major, but I haven’t been able to explore the department as much as I wanted. Can anyone here share their experiences with the CS department? My main concern is that the department is small, but I don’t really know if that’s good or bad.

same question here…

While I’m not familiar with our Comp Sci department, I can tell you that a small department has positives and negatives. On one hand you will know your fellow majors and especially professors very well, which is very valuable. On the other, your course selection will be more limited compared to a larger department. Film Studies is a similarly small department at BC, but the kids who are in that major seem to think very highly of the program and like knowing their professors as well as they do. Then again, I am sure many of them wish there were more course options.

You can earn a BA or a BS on comp sci at BC, here are the courses offered:

I’m not a comp sci major but I’ve taken 4 courses in the dept and from my experience and loosely based on the Peps ratings and people i know who’ve taken classes in the dept, there is one absoutely amazing beast professor(Sciore), a couple middle of the pack profs who are solid but not amazing and a bunch of really really ****ty ones.
