hi im wondering about pursuing a degree in computer science. My friend told me that computer science math would make me want to cry and makes calculus looks easy? is this true? What types of classes and maths do computer science majors study? does it require calculus 3? Is csu fullerton or cal poly pomona a good school for C.S.? Is it a hard major?

If you like math and are good at it, you should find math used in computer science not unreasonably difficult. Typical math courses for computer science majors include:

freshman calculus
linear algebra
discrete math
algorithms and complexity (computer science theory, which is very much like a math course)

Many computer science courses include a significant amount of computer programming, which can be time consuming.

I actually find calculus tedious and the more cs-focused math really interesting. logic, discrete math…it makes you think more. My program requires through calc 3, prob and stats, discrete math and recommends linear/matrix algebra

I agree with the above that discrete math / theoretical computer science make you think more. I would say they are comparably difficult, but it’s very much an apples-to-oranges deal, since “computer science math” is very different from what you’re likely used to in pure math/analysis. I’d encourage you to look up discrete math and theoretical CS (esp. the theory of computation) on Wikipedia; it’ll give you an idea of what sorts of things CS majors do. I think that discrete math and theoretical CS are by far the most fascinating kind of math.

thanks alot guys. Youve made it easier
