<p>Yes, it’s definitely possible to transition to that kind of role. Depending on the company, they might even count a more technical background as a plus (e.g. Amazon).</p>

<p>Hm. There are definitely companies where engineers are actually preferred for management positions. However, CNN and Turner Broadcasting are definitely not those types of companies in my opinion. We’re talking about companies like Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Microsoft, Ebay, any web software company, Oracle, Salesforce, Cisco, etc…, basically companies where software engineering is at the core of the company. Engineering is not at the core of media companies like CNN.</p>
<p>^Basically this. However, it’s not like your career prospects in management would /that/ much better if you did business or something related (and general career prospects are better with CS).</p>
