I’m interested in computer science, and I was wondering how good the program is at Stevens. Based on what I’ve seen and heard, the computer science program is okay at this university. What’s your opinion? Thank you!!
My sophomore DD is home on beak and I asked her since she has many friends who are in computer science and computer engineering. (She is in engineering) She says it’s a smaller program than engineering, but the program is growing quickly. The friends seem happy with their classes and there are chances to do co-ops. Several friends were on co-op this past summer/fall and would come for club activities after work in the evenings.
Thanks for the response, it was helpful. What are co-ops? @milwaukeegirl
Co-op is short for cooperative education experience. Businesses agree to take on Stevens’ students as employees for a time. During a co-op, you don’t take classes and work for a company in a field related to your major. You are paid a pretty good wage but don’t usually receive benefits like sick leave, but that varies from company to company. I understand co-ops are a little more in-depth than internships and last longer.
My DD is beginning an 8 month co-op this month. She still lives in campus housing because the co-op is in Manhattan, but she will not take classes although Stevens will let you take one class if you want. There were co-op information sessions and fairs, and she received help getting her placement. Stevens is known for their great co-op program, and it’s one of the reasons she chose Stevens.
My DS was accepted early decision (Class of 2021). He wants to major in computer science. Loved the campus, smaller setting, and proximity to NYC. We have only heard good things about Stevens. My friends daughter is a chemical engineer for Loreal, and she told her they regularly get interns from Stevens, and they have very good reputation.
