Computer Science

Basically Im a junior that goes to the best HS in my state (KY) and I'm having problems trying to decide on which colleges that I should apply to. My GPA isnt that great (3.3, should be a 3.4 by next year). The thing is my family doesnt have much money to spend on college. Neither of my parents have college degrees, and one only has a GED. On practice ACT's I've been getting around 32, so I'm hoping for above a 30 on the actual test. I didn't manage to take the old SAT and I haven't taken any practice new ones so I'm not sure how I will do on that, although I will study before the time comes. Last year I took 1 AP class (World Civ), this year I have 4 (Stat, Psych, US History, and Computer Science), and next year I plan on taking another 4 for a total of 9. All of these will be 4's or 5's. No real EC's except for excutive parlimentary office and historian of young independants at school. Next year I'll be president. So basically my question is what are some good computer science schools that I would be able to get scholarships / financial aid from ?

Thanks

Ask any questions you need too, as I may have forgot something as well.

Welcome aboard sudla. Nice to have you on the board here.

Re: CS, Carnegie Mellon's arguably the best though it'll be hard to get $$ without stellar grades.

Consider Purdue and Rochester. Excellent reputations for CS and you'll have a shot at merit scholarships. WPI is also worth considering.

What is your class rank???

You can get into UIUC (which is ranked #4) if you can manage to get high standardized test scores but hard to get money from there...

For scholarships, RPI will also be a good option.....

jake, welcome to the board!
