What category does Computer Science fall under? I keep looking for it when colleges ask me about my intended major, but fail to find it. Does it fall under Computer Engineering, because some don't even give that choice.

Thanks

The best way to find out is to research the website of the college you are interested in. See what you can find under their list of departments or list of majors, or google “computer science” and the name of the college. If the college has a computer science program, it should show up as one of the first hits even though it might have a different name (e.g. computer engineering).

Generally speaking, computer science is usually listed as “computer science”, plain and simple. At larger universities which are subdivided into several administrative units, computer science is typically offered through the general college/college of arts and sciences or the college of engineering. There are related majors like “computer engineering” or “information technology”. They overlap with computer science quite a bit but typically cover a different range of topics. On the other hand, some colleges teach all of their computer-related classes under a computer engineering umbrella program without making a distinction between programs.

Lastly, keep in mind the option that a college may not have a computer science program at all. Surprising as it may seem, less than 1/3 of all 4-year colleges in this country have a major in computer sicence or computer engineering. Some college teach a couple of computer science classes through other departments (e.g. math, physics, engineering) when they don’t have a full computer science program.

perfect answer. thanks
