How is Pitt's computer science program? I searched old threads and did not find much, so I was hoping there might be someone who might be able to share their experience.

I can;pt share much but my son is a Freshman Comp Sci major. The head of the department met with him when he was deciding about schools and he liked what he heard. He also spoke with students in the Department.

SOmething that was important to him was the opportunity to do a coop, and the dept head said that Comp Sci students are in demand for coops (we’ll see if that’s so). You can also cross register for classes at Carnegie Mellon (certain rules apply).

Sorry I can’t tell you more but classes just started last week.

But if you call or e-mail the department they are very helpful and will answer any questions you have, and even meet with you when you go for a visit. He also had the opportunity to sit in on a class, but decided not to.

My daughter is a freshman at Pitt and although her major is the furthest thing from CS my younger son picked up CS literature while visiting. The program looks very good on paper and considering the college it is probably a very good program. If you call admissions they could send you the literature that we picked up when in their office. It is much more in-depth than what is on the Pitt website. Hope this helps. Would also love to hear from others.

I good friend of mine majored in CS at Pitt and is doing very well professionally. I know that doesn’t give many details about the program, just saying he seemed prepared for the workforce.

Maybe look into MIS. That is a good mixture of CS/Business and gives a bit of flexibility when applying for different jobs.

Thanks for your replies. Computer Science is a recent interest for my child, so I am happy to hear anything about Pitt’s program.
