Computer Software Engineers

I want to be a Computer Software Engineer, so should I should be getting my Associates in Engineering or Computer Science?

Neither. You will ideally have a B.A./B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, math or information systems. The Associate’s degree is basically the first 2 years of your B.A./B.S. program. This should be your plan for your first 2 years of a computer science or math/cs degree:

Calculus I
Calculus II
Linear Algebra
Discrete Math/Structures
Physics I
Physics II
Object-Oriented Programming I (C++ or Java)
Object-Oriented Programming II (C++ or Java)
English Composition I
English Composition II
3 social Science courses
3 Arts/Humanities courses
2 Electives**

**will be Calculus III and Differential Equations if a math major

Or check your transfer target four year schools to see what requirements they have and which courses at your community college (and other nearby community colleges) will fulfill them. In general, the course pattern will look like the above, though there can be some variation between different four year schools (e.g. some schools may require an introductory electronics course, or the humanities and social studies requirements may differ, or the introductory computer science courses may be organized differently).

You may end up picking up an associates degree along the way, although that is not necessary if you transfer to a four year school and complete a bachelor’s degree.
