<p>I will be in need of a computer for the coming school year, and am debating which route I should take. Right now I am thinking about building myself a high end desktop computer for ~$900. I can't fathom paying $1000+ for a laptop that is basically terrible when compared to the technology available today. How frequent are desktop only users on campus? I will be in the CoE. I assume the large majority of students use laptops only. Any advice is appreciated.</p>

<p>Umm, you should be fine. I knew several sophomore engineers, who managed fine with just a desktop. Most of your teammates will have laptops if you happened to ever need one for a group project/presentation.</p>
