Hey all,

I was wondering what the best computer operating system is to have at Tufts (Mac vs. PC).... does either one pose an advantage over the other at Tufts?

Also, is most of the campus wireless?

Hey all,

I was wondering what the best computer operating system is to have at Tufts (Mac vs. PC).... does either one pose an advantage over the other at Tufts?

Also, is most of the campus wireless?

i'm not sure what computer is best, but i just had a tour less than a week ago and they said most of the campus is WiFi, but some classrooms and dorms aren't fully equipped yet.

Not all of the campus is WiFi, but EVERYWHERE on campus has Internet access. So it'll either be WiFi or broadband.

People go with what they personally prefer in terms of Mac v. PC. Tufts' computer labs are 50/50.

The computer labs are slightly less than 50/50, with more Dells than Macs.

I can't say whether or not there are good services for people with Macs on campus, but I have had amazing experiences with Tufts OnLine fixing my Dell Inspiron. I think they have a relationship with a Dell representative, so when I spilled Snapple on my keyboard they replaced it by the next day; and just last week after the ridiculous rainstorm my computer got wet in my backpack, I turned it on, it shorted...it looked like all was lost but then Tufts OnLine called me like, "Your computer's ready to be picked up!" I said "....what state is it in?" They were like, "Um...perfect? It just needed a new motherboard, so we replaced that for you."

However, they replace them for free b/c my dad purposely got the extended warranty. He knows me well. LOL.

anyway, my point is, I've had nothing but success stories in terms of support and repair services for my computer from Tufts OnLine, and it's for my Dell. That's not to say that Tufts doesn't have good Mac capacity, but I just don't know if they do. So if there are any Mac users who could share their experiences with Tufts OnLine, I'm sure we'd get a better understanding.

Extended warranties cover Snapple spills? You must not have told them the full circumstances around the "event" :-)

blurinka....

did you purchase your dell and its warranty through the school or was that your own doing? do they sell computers to students through the school? do they give better deals to those students?

i've used a PC throughout my entire life, but with all the positive uproar surronding macs recently constrasting with pc's various problems i feel a mac might be a nice change

A mac is definitely a good change. Just buy AppleCare and you're set :)

hey alzyb1, yes they do have "special" Tufts deals Dell computers. However, you can definitely find better deals through dell.com, best buy, or other places. Also, if you happen to break your hard drive (asI managed to do), and decide not to use Tufts OnLine, Dell is actually very good at getting replacement parts to you in 1-2 business days.

If you are very careful with your computer, a Mac is great. I have a MacBook and I love it. It is miles better than my old PC, in my opinion. But if you're like my boyfriend and constantly use the laptop in your bed, leave it open, on edges, eat near it....a PC is a lot easier to fix, so go with that. Dell has better, cheaper repair rates than Mac, but you need it because Dells crash all the time...I hated my old Dell.

Dell has no more than 12% discount for DELL...In most of the cases, XPS tend to have much little discount, around 5-6%, but Inspiron has much higher discount,

Generally, DELL tends to have give rebates for similar amount...

Ah, another key thing is to buy during the holiday season

yeah but these days a lot more ppl seem to have mac laptops than PCs. However the PC side of the computer lab is always more busy than the Mac side.
