Accepted into the ME program. Can I use a Mac or will I need a PC for specific software?

This might help a bit, but you may want to wait and talk to the ME dept:

Geez…I searched for info, but couldnt find it. Thanks.

I’d usually recommend a small netbook PC, but keep in mind the MEs often depend on beefy software. CAD, Solidworks, and heavier simulation apps might not work well with weaker machines. Of course, poly has lab machines for such projects so it’s a matter of convenience whether you want to keep this software close or not.

I’m nearly done with my third year in biomed and cannot honestly say I ever depended on the power my upper-end laptop provides. Nor will faculty provide you with software for your personal machine. Had I known, I would have bought something small, light, and lasting on the battery life for those late night library camp-outs. I suggest you do the same
