My son is going in fall 06--do most kids take laptops or desktops?

Either work. It depends on what your son's going to use a computer for. If he plans on taking it to class or around the wireless campus, a laptop is ideal. If he doesn't, a desktop will do.

I would recommend a laptop...dorm rooms do not have much extra space. Plus your student can bring it home for weekends and breaks. If you are buying something new, I'd vote for the laptop. You can check out Penn State's computer store to see what they have to offer.

I really think he'll choose a laptop too, and we have one, but we might have to soup it up. :)

My d is currently at PSU. I think everyone has a laptop. We got hers at Costco. Its great because there are alot of support people in each of the commons in case your son has any problems.

He's an Information Science kid, he'd probably be GIVING help more than needing it :) Thanks for the info. No Costco by us.

Just an FYI. There was no costco near us either. We saw the one we wanted from the dell website with all the features, Costco had it about $800 cheaper. We got the updated warranty from Dell, even with the $35 Costco membership fee (for membership we will never use) we saved tons of $.

so you ordered online from Costco?

we have a computer buddy who loves DS, we'll probably just get something customized from him, but thanks!
