Hey guys! So I'm currently a junior in high school and was wondering if you can take notes on a laptop in all classes in college. In my high school, we get laptops to take notes on and I think it'd be hard to adjust. Of course I don't take notes for Chemistry or Math, but for English I type like a crazy person.

It depends on the course and the professor. There is still a lot of worry that students are playing games etc. But the trend that I see is more students using laptops responsibly, and (1) more professors accepting them and (2) more professors encouraging their use because access to the Internet allows for spontaneous searches that can supplement a discussion.

Sweet! Our computers are extremely restricted so we don’t really have as many distractions. But yes, I can type way faster than I can write and I love specific notes. @wasatchwriter

I could in all of my classes, but some professors don’t allow it. It’s going to depend on the professor’s rules. Some have rules like you have to sit in the front if you want to use a computer.

Some do, some don’t… I’ve actually seen more rules saying you sit in the back or on the side if you want a laptop out, because it can be distracting to other students. Some professors don’t allow any laptops/phones during class, others don’t care what you do.

^Some professors feel like they can “keep an eye” on students better if they sit in the front so that they aren’t slacking off as much when using a computer. The professors I know who have done this have had TAs who come to the class sit further back so that they can watch out for facebook/games/etc, and call students out on it.

Seems silly to me, but eh, as long as I can use my computer.
