Mac's appear to cost more than equivalent Windows machines, but after you figure in all the Windows security software you must buy, run, keep updated, and the time lost in the likelihood of reloading OS every 10 months anyway... I figure Mac's are not more expensive.

I have had a laptop since the beginning of 9th grade (every student in my hs gets one) and it broke in oct like 3 months out of warrantee (just my luck!) so my parents bought me a really cheap laptop (like 400$) then so i could finish senior year wiht a laptop and use the same one for college. My plan is to update it a little bit before college also though. THe other suggestion my dad made, that eh ahs at work is that while he has a laptop, at work he has a desktop setup. He connects his laptop to a port and it charges his laptopp all day and at the same time he gets everything he wants from his computer on a flat screen, wiht a regular keyboard, and a mouse...just a thought..

I'd hold off on the MacBook Pro presently; if you search Google, you'll notice that these early generations are having problems with overheating, which is leading to destruction of the motherboards.

so far
no one's MoBo has malfunctioned yet, I believe people are more worried about their hands and or their Processors having reduced lifespans.
but Don't get me wrong a 95* C processor would freak me out too...
I mean
what, do we get a coffee maker with the Macbook for that temp?

Yeah, I'm starting to think twice about the MBP...but we know that all the ones being built now are new as of today (speed bump with same otherwise specs, so there is no chance of old stock), so hopefully some kinks have been worked out (ahem...thermal grease...).
I'm also considering the new Macbook (not Pro)...lots cheaper, and I'm not a big gamer, so it may be contender...

I heard that some people complain of the same type heat problems with the regular, non-pro, MBs. Maybe its an early adopter thing?
Perhaps one should wait for as many revisions of MB(P)s as possible before buying. let all the other people out there be the guinea pigs for this experiment.

You know, there will always be problems. I'm getting a macbook (a LOT less problems than the macbook pro). If you want a computer, get one. If you don't need one now, then wait.

true, true... I dunno I think regardless of what I'll end up getting I will try to wait, either for the PC duo-cores to come down in price, or to see how this heat issue pans out over more than just the first 4 months of production.
