I live in the area and definitely suggest PNC for your banking. As for campus safety, it's certainly not in the safest area, but just use some basic caution and you should be fine.

what do you mean about unsafe??

You confirmed my point about doors not getting locked. Every college we visited stated the top theft items were bikes and laptops and I believe them. The problem apparently can be worse at large public institutions that routinely have a lot of outsiders on campus. The likelihood of theft can even be related to where the dorm is and the floor one is on (convenience to the thief). I'm not talking about U-Pitt in particular since I'm on the other side of the country. If the theft rate there is low to the point of non-existence, then I'm happy to hear it. A cable lock is only about $30 though, much less than the cost of a laptop or having to put up with the aggravation and data loss if one is stolen.

Well as with the many universities drug use is very prevalent. I have known many people to come home due to it. Walking around Oakland at night should only be done in groups. Basically students just have to use common sense. Don't hang out with drug users, use caution at night when walking around, and most importantly, watch your drink while at parties. There is going to be crime in any major city. I have talked to you in PMs before nurse 123, (even though you never reply back). As I told you, I will most likely be at Pitt for nursing depending on where else I get in. I have lived near the campus my entire life, so I know what to expect. Pretty much anyone who has self-control should be okay at Pitt. But those who are easily influenced/lack self-control would probably get into trouble anywhere anyway.

During the day, Pitt seemed very safe! A small secluded campus can be very unsafe at night, as well.

Most definitely! It is important to use caution anywhere really. What type of nurse would you like to become? I have been volunteering with cancer patients for years, so I'd like to go into Oncology Nursing.

Pitt's actually very safe at all times, it's really only when you go off into south oakland and other areas that it becomes sketchy. As for theft, I had a laptop for two years in the dorm and never had anyone touch and my roomate was famous for leaving to go to a room down the hall and leaving our door wide open. Pitt's security for dorms is also a lot higher than other colleges. Most places people can just go in and out as they please, here you have to get swiped in or have someone sign you in if it's not the dorm you live in.

Citzen's Bank is also very convenient, especially if you are from out of state. I don't have PNC in new england so it Citzen's works really well since it's nationwide
