computing gpa

Does anyone know how most major universities compute gpa. Is it .5 for honors and 1.0 for ap add on. Alot of people seem to show their weighted gpa which is from their high school which might be inflated when the university recomputes it. Ive seen people add a point for honors and 2 points for ap's.......

Is their a rule of thumb. I know what florida does its my home state but clueless as to the rest of the country.

It depends. Public universities are more likely to have specific GPA calculation methods because they need to have some transparency for political reasons. However, note that Texas public universities do not use GPA at all; they use class rank instead (does this make Texas high school students more “cutthroat”?).

Public universities in California calculate admissions GPA as described here:

Private schools may holistically look at the transcript and see that you got (for example) mostly A grades in the most rigorous courses available in your high school, or mostly B/C grades while avoiding the most rigorous courses available in your high school, etc. rather than recalculating GPA.
