ComSci 31 with Smallberg

Are the textbooks mandatory? One of them is required and another optional, but I was wondering if the main textbook is absolutely crucial to this course.

Oh, and for those of you that have taken it already, the bookstore says that the required is the Programming: Principles and Practice using C++ and the optional one is Absolute C++ by Savitch. But looking at the Spring 09 syllabus, it seems that the main, required textbook was the Absolute C++ by Savitch. I'm just trying to be cautious and just make sure.. did Smallberg change the textbook this year?

Thanks.

Nah, I took that class last fall. Textbooks are not really required. Although they are good to have for reference purposes. In fact, you don’t even need to have the listed textbook.

The syllabus includes a link to download a free textbook by another author too. I would recommend not buying it first, and waiting till the first week of class.
