Concealed carry on college campuses

Universities in Texas 'to allow students to carry guns on campus' - Telegraph

As a Texas HS student, this really worries me. I'm sure parents also would worry about sending their kids to school, an environment that can be high-stress, where anybody could be carrying a gun. It kind of makes me sad, because this might take instate schools off my list when I'm applying next year. Maybe I'm a little paranoid, but I just wouldn't feel safe.

Consider the Fort Hood shooter. Why didn’t some soldier immediately get the drop on him? This was a military base! So why would we imagine that untrained college kids, in all the panic of an unfolding crisis, could have gotten the drop on the VT shooter?

Arizona allows concealed carry without a permit. At least one bystander at the scene of the Gabrielle Giffords shooting apparently had a firearm. So why didn’t someone get the drop on the shooter?

Concealed carry introduces significant risk for unproven, rather implausible benefits. It is more about making an emotional political statement than a serious approach to public health and safety. Mass school shootings like Columbine or VT are rare even in America. Suicides and deadly domestic disputes are not. More guns only increase their likelihood.
