<p>It's easiest to get admitted if you choose what you really like to do.</p>
<p>For instance, I selected engineering, but under my top three choices I had two engineering concentrations and one arts. No one ever said I couldn't.</p>
<p>I don't know for sure whether engineering gives you any advantage, but I hear from a Caltech adcom member who grew up in Princeton that engineering at Pton's even tougher to get into than arts there. And yet at the same time, the Prince's latest story says that Princeton wants to strengthen the engineering dept. </p>
<p>But... since you're applying to the University and not to a specific school, I don't think it matters much.</p>
