ok, our school has the hardest time keeping new teachers and staff members more htan a year. We went a year without one. Last year, we finally hired someone who knew what they were doing. I went to him almost once a week just so hed know enough about me, my wanting to go to ND, and all that fun stuff so he could write a good yet true counselors report. Of course, over the summer he quit and now we have this lady. Its her first year doing this, she has no i dea who i am, or what i want or stand for. I went to ask her to fill out my papers and write my recommendation... and im nervous that she wont mention that its her first time around and she doesnt know me at all. I'm also very worried about her writing skills. I have an EXCELLENT teacher recomm. but her's is making me quite nervous.
If her recommendation isnt great, but doesnt reflect me badly.... is it going to hurt my application?

Anglwings this is a very important issue, and I think you will get many more responses if you post this in the Parents Forum where very helpful and knowledgable people will share their advice with you.
Carolyn, in particular, would be a good person to ask this directly, although many others have had experience with this exact dilemma.

Sorry, I wish I could help you more-

Anglswings...I understand your concern, having been through the same issue myself. Try not to worry too much; admissions knows that not all counselors are personally connected to their students, and they won't let the fact that your counselor is new work against you. I think it's one of those things that could help you if it was good, but won't count against you if it's bad. The teacher recommendation is much more important...after all, you sat in that teacher's class every day for a year, right? SouthJersey gives good advice though...Carolyn can offer you some more advice about the situation. Just remember that your application is a package, and one weaker component (especially one that's not your fault) will most likely not sway the whole application. If you're still a bit uneasy about it, there's always that section "A Final Note" where you can put any unusual circumstances or clarify parts of your application...you could put in a note there and let admissions know your concern.

Good luck with the process, and if you have any more questions, I'll check this board or just PM me! But most importantly, enjoy your senior year!!

I've had a new counselor every year since I started highschool. Now,the one I have this year is leaving too.....So my new counselor will write my rec about a month and a half after meeting me... so im in a similiar circumstance......but I think it will all work itself out for the both of us

thanks guys... ill try and rest easy over it.
