Concerned about GPA

lets say i got 4-5 C's in my nonmajor classes but managed to pull off a cumulative gpa of 3.6 over my undergraduate years. considering the fact that a 3.6 is a pretty good gpa, will the couple of C's be detrimental or will the 3.6 be able to cover them?

the 3.6 can cover for them, although if their is a pattern to the courses (say they are all quantitative) then you may need to look for ways to shore up your app in that regard (with that same example, by getting a very high gmat quantitative score). So basically, you are fine.

Your GPA is all that matters. What you received in individual classes won't matter at all to graduate business schools.

^I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. It's not like admissions people are going to compare two candidates and say one guy's 3.6 GPA is absolutely better than the other guy's 3.5 GPA without delving deeper and examining the classes and other particular circumstances. GPA isn't that deterministic of MBA admissions anyway. At least, out of any of the top 10 programs, a 3.6 GPA isn't going to keep you out of any school and isn't solely going to get you into any of them; so at this point would focus your concerns on other elements of your application.

EXACTLY my point. Graduate business schools care very little what you did as a kid. You getting Cs at the age of 19-20 means very little if you have accomplished anything in the real world. In fact, if you are 3 years removed from college and you are still leaning on your undergraduate accomplishments, you should really examine where the hell you have gone wrong in your professional career.

Candidates with similiar GPAs aren't going to be differentiated based on how they did in individual classes. They will be differentiated based on the other parts of their application (ie essays, gmat, work experience, etc).

How do you plan on getting a 3.6 with 5 C's?

You would have to have a 4.0 outside of those classes, and it would be really odd for someone to have a 2.0 in 5 classes and a 4.0 in all the rest.

Hell, I have a 3.7 and I don't even have 5 B's.

If you can pull it off then more power to yah. Good luck.
