I’m attending SU this winter quarter as a transfer student, and I love everything about it. The location, the campus, the housing options–the whole feel of it. My only hesitation comes from the school’s place as a Jesuit institution. I know people say that the school isn’t too harsh when it comes to Catholicism, and on my application, I didn’t even give them my religious affiliation (I have none lol). I don’t mind religion, per say, but I’m not exactly thrilled with the idea of constantly being surrounded by it. I have no experience with organized religion, as that’s now how I was raised and it’s kind of like…foreign to me. I see news about how the university doesn’t support the faculty unions, because apparently it interferes with the religious “freedom” or whatever, and again, it worries me a little. I know the students and faculty have protested the president, so that’s nice to know, at least. I’m also kind of concerned that when I’m applying for jobs after I graduate, certain employers will see that I attended a “religious” college and maybe not like me as much. I can’t help it, but I would honestly rather my employers not have any preconceived notions about my religion, spiritality, etc. Are my concerns valid or…am I being stupid?
I also got accepted into UW Seattle, but aside from the religion factor, one hundred percent I prefer SU. So basically, does anyone have any helpful information for me? Are the students at SU mostly religious? Is the school conservative or progressive? Neither? Does it feel secular? Am I being ridiculous? lol
