Concerned Penn Students: Help Stop Crime at Penn!

Hey everyone,

Due to the recent onslaught of crime at Penn, some concerned Penn students have started a petition online to request that Maureen Rush's actions be reviewed. Follow the below link to review and (if you want to help) sign the petition!

Reprimand Maureen Rush Petition

Thank you!!

What exactly is she supposed to do?

Maybe her job, lol.

Try new ideas, get much more aggressive, improve accountability, accept responsibility for crimes instead of shifting blame to other parties, the students themselves, or--my new favorite--"bad luck."

I don't really know what she should do, but haven't other campuses effectively dealt with crime problems in the past? Is Penn really the most extreme case or is it just high profile?
One thing I appreciate is students wanting to take action, rather than several on this forum alone who continue to pretend that Penn's crime issues are merely matters of "common sense"...No matter how many incidents occur.

To be totally honest, it's her job to take accountability on these kinds of things even if she isn't actually in a position to make changes (as in tonight's mace-ing of a penn student in the drexel area). She's a figurehead, and her reputation is a function of safety on campus. She should either step up, or someone should fire her. Amy, don't you think the capital campaign will suffer because of this?

word to that.

I agree. Something needs to change.

Hey look! More crime (although this time it was technically outside of Penn's patrol area)

Thanks, mattwonder

bump (10 chars)

My son's laptop was stolen today from his off-campus room (Penn patrol area). His entire semester's work and final papers (one due Fri am) are gone. His camera was also taken. He has filed a police report.

Crime is out of control at and around Penn.

what better way to get things done than through an online petition?

Theft is hardly a problem unique to Penn.

Was the house broken into, or did somebody leave it unlocked?

I think we need an online petition addressed to the muggers/burglars/rapists/shooters of W. Philadelphia.

"We, as Penn Students, feel that our safety is being threatened.
We are respectfully requesting that you lay off Penn Students."

Sincerely,

I guess this is the ultimate proof that rankings are indeed meaningless...

Finally some Penn students are facing the problem and speaking up, instead of defending their bubbling "college spirits".
