Concerned re NY Times article on U Chicago admissions

Hi, my son applied EA to U of C and was very excited about it, got lots of mailings and e-mails from them prior to deciding to apply etc. So our family is crossing all our fingers for him but then I read an article in NY Times that came out today saying U Chicago has joined the group of universities that want to up their number of applicants so as to have their selectivity rating go up. I.e. they went to Common App., hired a PR firm etc. to encourage as many students to apply to U Chicago as possible, so they can reject more. Do other applicants or the Official College Confidential U of C rep have any thoughts on this? Am I misinterpreting what I read in NY Times?

Well I saw Cue7 started a post Nov 5 with the same general theme.

There are two posts on the same page as your that discuss the article - check them out.
