I'm a bit confused about the AP policy. Do they actually give out grades (A for a 5, B for a 4, Credit only for a 3)? Who in the world would want a B??? I'd rather just get credit to get it out of the way of my core requirements. Can I choose to get Credit only even if I get a 4, or must I receive a B? Can anyone clarify for me please?

You can get credit for anything above their cutoff. So don't worry about it.

On a side note, damn my calculus AB teacher!

I was so obsessed with that question also! But I emailed them, and they said that as long as you meet the grade requirement, then you can just receive credit in that course, rather than a corresponding letter grade attached to it. I know right...who would want a B, which could ruin their GPA. UT is like the only school that does the whole 5 is an A distribution.

But that's a good thing though right? Basically if you get a 5 then you get credit and a awesome grade.

Yeah when I took my BC calc I was like, I better get a 3 or a 5.

Actually a 4 wouldn't hurt it would just make me really really mad that I was so close to an A.

Hmm on another topic, would you guys still take the credit or take it over again in college in hopes of getting an A?

I would take it for credit, why take it over what is the point?

Definitely just take the credit! I would use that as a safety net if you don't get the letter grade you want. I mean try for like the best score you can get, but notice it won't kill you just to get credit. I love their system...at first I didnt know you could clam just credit if you didn't get the grade you want...but now...its just like free grades for the courses that I can get an "A" in.

Ionno, I was hearing how college GPA's meant everything and you need to keep it as high as you can.

i was so happy when i found out that they'll take my SAT II so i don't have to take the AP

For which test are you talking about?

If you go to the Claim Credit page (link at the bottom om this page - EID required), it will list all your SAT II and AP scores and ask you to choose to either claim credit or credit and a letter grade.

The SAT II subject tests

Oh, I meant which one specifically. Didn't they limit the type of subject tests availible for getting credit?

Well, so far d can decide to accept four A's and one B (for which she can choose to accept credit only). But she's not going to make any decisions about whether to take the credit or not until she talks to the Plan II people about it so she doesn't mess anything up. UT certainly makes it easy for people who have taken all those AP tests and SAT IIs to get credit for them.

She has 2 AP's to go this year (bio & US govt, just finished literature)and then according to the measurement center she could be eligible for even more credit. (A 5 on AP bio would give you A's in four classes!) Of course a 5 is probably hard to get and if you take all that credit you might miss out on some great classes. And it seems like plan II discourages the credit by exam to some degree.

I'd take the credit for four classes.

I would still take an A or credit only. Who cares if PLAN II recommends it...get it out of the way! If you know the stuff, which is evident in the test score, why take it again?

Yeah, it would be INCREDIBLY boring to go through the same stuff you already know.
