Concerning UC Subject test requirements...

It says on the Collegeboard site that math is required for UCI. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, I have heard that you are not allowed to take 2 subjects in the same relative area. I have been planning for a while now to take World and US History, but I am unsure after I heard this unconfirmed information. Is this true as well?

"Two SAT Subject Tests.
These must be in two different areas, chosen from the following: English, history and social studies, mathematics (Level 2 only), science or language other than English."

For UCI ... For High School Juniors and Seniors
- Courses you should be taking now
- Honors courses, Advanced Placement
- SAT Reasoning Test or ACT Plus Writing and two SAT Subject exams
- UC Irvine's selection of freshmen students

Now specific schools may require certain tests .. for example it would not surprise me if architecture dn engineerignrequired the math ... dig around for your major of interest.

Math as a subject is required for UC admissions. Three years I think, four recommended. For SAT subject tests, they don't care whether you take math or not.

So my real question is this: are World History and US History considered two different subjects?

No ... they are both history.

On the College Board web site, I think they have them categorized. Many folks take literature as their second SATII since it was likely a part of your hs curriculum.

Math Subject Test is only required (or highly recommended) for engineering programs. And, it has to be math 2 -- UC will not accept Math 1. And, yes, Subject tests must be in different disciplines; two histories will not meet the admission requirement.
