Concerns about Junior Year GPA

In my freshman and sophomore year, I've hovered around my school's #15-20 ranks. (My cumulative GPA, assuming 4.0 = 100% on a non-AP class, is roughly 4.115) I'm pretty happy about this rank and would like to try to move up to near #10 in my junior year.

However, in my junior year, I'm only taking 5 weighted classes (AP/Honours), while I see others also in the high ranks (top 20) taking a full load of AP/Honours classes (all 8, filling up their schedule). These are people I personally know will do well in these weighted classes (95%+).

Now of course, this won't directly adversely affect my GPA, but I wonder if my GPA and class rank in junior year will suddenly "look bad" to colleges as all these other students overcome me due to their taking more AP classes than me.

TLDR: I'm not taking as many AP classes in junior year as my peers, wonder if this will negatively affect my chances for college as my junior GPA will not be stellar.

If the GC can’t say you took the hardest courses it will probably affect you for the schools with the lowest acceptance rates. As it is it may affect your class rank. It will not affect you for the 99% of other schools.

I agree with Erin’s Dad. Your rank will probably drop, and your counselor may have to mark that you took less than the most demanding courseload. Those two factors will hurt you at the most competitive schools.
