Concerns about transferring and rolling admissions decision response time

Hey y’all,

I’m a transfer student from California, and I have some questions about the application I submitted on March 3, 2016. I applied to CUNY Hunter, Baruch, and Brooklyn, but I had some issues with my application and some concerns about when I might be able to expect a response.

I sent my supplemental documents (transcripts and test scores and whatnot) from early March until mid-April, and just mailed them my personal statement today after realizing my chances to get into a CUNY school might be lower than I thought (I was rejected from almost all the schools I applied to). Would my decision come “6-8 weeks” after receiving the very last document? I was wondering if it was worth it to have my professors and mentors send letters of recommendation next week too.

I reviewed my application again these past few days and was also appalled to see that despite ensuring every relevant field was filled out, approximately 10 fields were completely blank on my application summary. My application portal also reflects no schools underneath the “You have requested the following college choice(s).” section. I emailed CUNY to double check and correct all the blank parts of my application, but they said they couldn’t guarantee a response for another week.

Does anyone else who applied after the Feb. deadline have any advice or knowledge to share about rolling admission responses? I am pretty worried and want to know if I should be freaking out any more about my application or sending letters of recommendations. I am also going to be going to East Africa this summer from early July to early September for an internship so I am also concerned about whether or not I’d get my decision by then or how I’d be able to start classes since we would start the last week of August.

Please let me know if you have anything to say about any of the concerns I brought up. Thanks so much everyone.

bump?

I honestly couldn’t find anything in old CC threads about how CUNY handles rolling admissions, I will try to call individual schools tomorrow.

Hello, I applied as a freshmen in April 22, I can tell you that they are still reviewing applications. Now I would deffenetly call the scools independently and ask exactly for requirements to get in and yes letters of recommendation should have been sent. Cuny told me that any documents in terms of copy of high school diploma ect… Could be sent through email would be faster for them to complete application. Call Cuny and ask them for their help ect… Best of luck.

@louissemi1 Thanks very much!

My portal updated about a week ago and it turns out my application was being held up to due one bureaucratic issue with a school’s transcript. They were also super willing to update my application and school choices when I let them know there were some errors with my app! I sent my letters of rec and my personal statements and hope I can get a decision in a few weeks. The only difference in advice I received was that they didn’t want to accept emails for my missing documents, only sealed envelopes from my schools.

That’s odd… I submitted my high school diploma and transcript via email maybe because I’m from NYC. But at least you spoke with some one and they handle your application . Dont worry I still haven’t received any-acceptance letters yet. Since they are still accepting applications you will be fine.
