Okay, so from the title you may already know that i am currently a high school senior. I didn't do too bad in school, but just not that good which i would get into a UC because my GPA is only a 3.10. Ehhs.
Anyways, typical question that many have asked but after reading all the responses still got me confused.

Okay, Pasadena and Santa Monica City College.
I know that many had already stated that theres no such thing as this college will get more acceptance in the UC transfer system than this other one.

I researched a bit, i know that theres more asian ratio in pasadena and more whites in santa monica, but that doesnt matter. I want to know that which one is a better learning environment, and perhaps isnt too full in classes although i know now with the budget cut in education all community colleges are dying and filled to their fullest perhaps.

But admission rate of each classes, i hope that there's college students here who have resently attended to one of these two colleges that would drop by and give me advise on that college they went to, on how hard it is to get a class in general.

And if you not from any of them, and have attended to a community college please tell me your experience, because i am really scared about attending there since its a new place and all.

Note: Both Colleges are actually close, since i have two places to stay that are near both colleges. (: So distance wise, its really not the issue here.

Please reply. ):

Im just scared about how i will have to end up taking 3 years in community college because i couldnt get enough units in community college.

thanks to everyone who have took their time to read this and extra thanks to the ones who too extra extra time to have replied (:

in a matter of fact, I would like to clarify in my own knowledge that UCs treat all CCC equally in acceptance rate. However, pcc are full of students, and there are not many classes will be available for freshman.Yes Im at pcc and i like it. Enable to transfer out in 2 years is all depend on you, of course picking the right classes would be able to help a lot. Just go to assist .org and set up a schedule of classes for the next 2 years.

yeaah i know and have heard from many that all UC treats all cc the same but then the fact that theeres over population causes many classes full.
so i am kinda of worried that picking pcc my cause me to not get the class i want. because i have to take extra english classes

Stay away from pcc also. But if you have some kind of priority registration program, you will be fine.

This spring will be my 4th semester at PCC and I will be transferring out with 83 units (you only need 60 to transfer) even though I skipped 3 intersections.

If you keep up with the registration dates and take classes during the intersections, you’ll have no problem transferring out within two years at either colleges.

Decide on a major, then go to assist.org and find out what the major’s pre-reqs are and compare the two colleges according to the availability of those pre-req classes.

Good luck. If you have more questions don’t hesitate to pm me.

I go to PCC. It’s hard to get classes, but I’ll say that that goes for all CC’s. It’s not impossible to finish in 2 year but I came to accept that 3 is normal now. If you have completely made up your mind, use your time wisely and not change major, you can do it in two years. It’s hard to get math and science, the rest are “crashable”. I would say take into account the distance of GCC and PCC. They’re not that far apart and if you want to co-enroll to increase the amount of possible classes you can get into.

girl just take online classes! Online classes + ratemyprofessor = easy A… not to mention you can enroll into 4 or 5 different colleges in the same semester for a higher chance of taking all your courses!!

I’ve visited both, and I would rather go to PCC. SMC is a ZOO, and the traffic to get there depends on where you live (which if you have to take the 405 sukz)

PCC and GCC are a good 2 schools to pick classes from. Since PCC you can pick winter classes, u can transfer in 2 years easy if you take winter and summer classes.

I recommend whichever school is less busy. The cc I live closest to is PACKED with people who drive in from other cities because they think it’s better. Any cc can get you out. It’s more about how much work you put in than anything else.

The only real question, imho, is if you know your major. One college may have more major prerequisites available for you, or a better program for that major overall. Check assist.org.

If you apply on the exact day for the semester it is not hard to get classes.
Most people say it’s hard, because they don’t apply early.

I would say try out LACCC, I heard they are richer than Pcc.

@Ferrari Do you mean LACC as in Los Angeles City college? If you do PCC is much nicer. I haven’t taken courses at either, but I’ve been to both when I had to look around for an anatomy course and LACC has one of the more rundown, outdated campuses in the LA county area. I knew there was no way I could’ve taken courses there. PCC is crowded, but it’s very nice, comfortable campus and they offer a variety of courses (much more than any of the colleges in the laccd system). if you have AP credit/test into the higher courses so you skip all of the crowded introductory classes you should be able to find classed to take. A few semesters a go I decided to sign up for Eng 102 and General Chem II on a whim in case I didn’t get into courses at Pierce and there were open spaces after priority registration.

Nope laccdistrict. I meant to say elac.

I go to both GCC and PCC.

Both good. GCC has an AMAZING Chem and bio department. Better than PCC’s. I suggest PCC. GCC is harder but I like the challenge.

i go to laccd… and i am able to register up to 6 different colleges or 7 in one semester? so for this spring im taking 2 classes online at lavc, one class at lattc and one class at elac, then one online class at west la college ='D & right now im going to lacc for one month class for winter!

Is GPA the only thing matter to get transfer to UC or its also depend on the major and classes you took?

Depends what UC you’re talking about.
