Concordia Language Village Scholarship - UMiss Chinese program

I received an email today saying that there is a new scholarship program at U Miss for their Chinese Flagship Program. An alum of ANY Concordia Language Camp is eligible.

Scholarship Opportunity for Language Village Alumni
"The University of Mississippi’s Chinese Language Flagship Program is pleased to offer scholarship funding valued at $24,000 to an alumnus or alumna of Concordia Language Villages who meets all of the competitive requirements for entrance...
Both students who have studied Chinese and students who have studied other languages are eligible to apply for this program;"

If you have a kid who is interested in their program, it might pay off for them to go to a 2 week camp.

They are great camps, too! My kids did not go to Chinese camp, but between them they spent 11 years at either French or Finnish camp.

My son had a very positive experience in the Concordia LV Italian camp.

For those whose kids attended, was the two week program enough to skip a level of HS language? Thanks!

No. It will likely make it MUCH easier for them to get an A when they get back to school, though :)

CLV has 4 week credit programs that really are a year’s worth of work. They study and take exams.

The two week classes are immersion (almost everything is done in the language of study), but the kids are not tested and don’t really “study”.

However, before making an assumption about even the 4 week program, check with your kids school. Our school would not accept the credits for the 4 week program, although D certainly sent the grade sheets in with her college applications. But the D who went to the credit program was studying a language not offered at her high school. If she had taken a language that was offered at her high school, they still would not have accepted the credit (they do not accept any outside credits except if you are transferring in), but might have given her accelerated placement (moved her up a year).
