During my sophomore year of HS I had a major concussion. I wasn't in school for a few days. Then, I was only allowed to go for half-days for a while. My school was less than understanding. I was failed for a term in my math class because I wasn't allowed to test. This caused my GPA to go down a lot. Before the incident I had a 3.6 gpa. I have ea 3.0 now after working my butt off junior year to bring it up again. I since transferred schools. Is there a way to let colleges know that I wasn't being lazy? I have documentation that I wasn't allowed in school for a while or only allowed to go half-days. I transferred schools, but would it be okay for my guidance counselor to write about it still?

Sorry, it just worries me.

This information can and should be included in the additional information section. It must have been a pretty bad concussion! So yes, include a written explanation accompanied with the documentation.

Best of luck,

Thanks. I’m just worried because a few of my applications don’t have the additional information section. One only has an optional place to write a little essay about yourself. I am unsure if I should write about it there or not?

Are you not applying via the common app?

A few of the schools I’m applying to don’t use the common app

Then the best thing to do would be to have your guidance counselor talk on the issue. Do you have a good relationship with him/her or was your GC the person who was “less than understanding”?

I transferred my junior year so last year. This GC is a different one than I had during this incident. I don’t eally know her too well so its hard. I don’t know how that would work out.

Still, talk to her about the situation and have her at least mention it. I really think that’s your best bet.

Thanks, its hard for me to figure out what schools to apply to because of it. Thanks for the help!
