Condensed Dartmouth vs. ____________ Thread

Hey everyone! Congrats to all those admitted during the regular decision round. The RD acceptance rate this year was 13%, so you're all part of an exceptional group of students. So, I am sure you also have an exceptional list of choices. Let's all discuss in this one thread the major distinguishing characteristics of Dartmouth vs. ____________. Let's keep this friendly.

Dartmouth>everywhere

/thread

dartmouth vs cornell?

K2theENNY- what's your intended major?

economics probably

Let me start by saying how THRILLED i am to have been accepted to Dartmouth!

That being said, as much as i love it, financially i have a few better options. UNC-Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt are my two other schools that I'm seriously considering. I intend to be pre-med and my top choice of major is neuroscience, which is offered at dartmouth and vanderbilt, but not chapel hill, although UNCCH has a great pre-med program. As a national merit scholar I have been offered a significant scholarship to vanderbilt and hope to receive at least some money to chapel hill, which is very, very reasonably to begin with (like $15,000 cheaper than almost every other school, even though I'm out of state).

I know that these are some VERY different schools but each has caught my attention for its own reason (though i have yet to see chapel hill, i'm very intrigued by what i know of it and, again, financially it's probably the best choice).

Does anyone have any insight on my situation? Basically i want to go to dartmouth but either need to be convinced that it's worth the financial hit or that one of the other schools would be just as great.

Dartmoose- Actually the overall rate was 13%, the RD rate was less than 10%. Tough Year!

K2thENNY- In terms of Dartmouth vs. Cornell for a business career (I assume this since you say you are an econ major), Dartmouth in my opinion has a strong leg up. It has more elite recruiters coming to campus and a longer legacy on the street. Dartmouth does about as well as Yale, and easily is among the top 5-7 schools in the country in terms of job placement into top firms. Also the D-plan gives you a huge advantage, you can apply for a school year internship with essentially no competition from other schools giving you a big leg up in terms of getting a top internship. Also Dartmouth is among the top 5, in terms of percentage, when it comes to placement into HBS, Wharton, and Stanford Business Schools. That plus Dartmouth is awesome in every way!!

Dartmouth vs Berkeley in engineering especially Electrical Engineering/Computer

I overall think that Dartmouth is a better university, and overall I like it better than Berkeley, however it's not known for its engineering. While Berkeley's ranked as the 3rd best undergrad engineering college and the 2nd best for EE/CS in the U.S. by U.S. News. I know I shouldn't focus just on rankings but it says a lot about how good their program is.

I'd like to see comparisons of Dartmouth vs. Brown and Dartmouth vs. Northwestern.

Lauren, I'm currently at Dartmouth and I'm a Neurosci/History double with pre-med. Trust me, it's worth it.

And like I've said before, the money you save now doesn't matter in the future because college. is. an. investment. I gave up on the whatever scholarship from JHU for $120000 to go to Dartmouth and I dont regret it one bit.

dartmouth vs. princeton
anyone have any thoughts?

princeton's in new jersey.

just saying.

for some people that's a plus...i guess...

^ hahaha

dartmouth vs cornell for premed?
