Conditional Acceptance= Prefreshman program?

Hi! I was just accepted to Cornell ED just a few hours ago. I noticed something a bit strange when I reviewed my letter:

Very soon, you will receive your official letter of acceptance from us in the mail. In your official letter of admission, you will note that your acceptance is conditional based on certain requirements that you will need to fulfill before you matriculate. If you have any questions once you have reviewed your letter, please don't hesitate to contact us at 607.255.5241.

This sounds like it could be the prefreshman program? I just want to verify what I should be looking out for when I get my acceptance package. Thanks!

Hi Newberrytiger:

I just checked the e-mail my son received and he did not have anything about the acceptance being conditional based on certain requirements, so it sounds like in your case there is something additional you may need to do

I’m pretty sure I’ve only ever heard of the prefreshman program being necessary for a conditional acceptance. FWIW, anyone I’ve known who did it enjoyed it. In my mind, it also shows that Cornell really does want you as a student, but feels your preparation was lacking in an area. After all, there are plenty of rejected applicants who had the sufficient prerequisites.

Op,

The PSP is an opportunity for you to acclimate to the campus and take some college courses in preparation for your experience at Cornell. It is a great program and will allow you to form some very close bonds with other students in the program. Many of these friendships will last your entire stay at Cornell. My child attended the program and I believe it helped him.

Note: Do your best to achieve the highest grades in these classes as they will become part of your official transcript.

"This sounds like it could be the prefreshman program? "

No. That’s standard language. Basically between now and Sept 2013 don’t do or have done any of the following:

1) have submitted fraudulent docs with your application (i.e. faked transcript)
2) commit a felony
3) get expelled from HS
4) have your grades fall off the cliff (Cs, Ds and Fs) since your final Senior semester grades will be sent to Cornell

Typical stuff. Don’t be an idiot and you’ll be fine. Think about it, everyone who is accepted to any college must abide by these conditions or the college is compelled to drop you.

Congrats!

Hi! Thanks you guys for all the answers. I’ve gotten a range of different responses when I have asked, and the reason I think it’s the prefreshman program, T26E4, is because this paragraph wasn’t included in most acceptance letters. However, I suppose if it is just to keep my grades up, that would still make sense considering I was admitted with pretty low stats.

Thanks again everyone! Feeling better about it, and looking forward to getting my official acceptance package soon (:
