Hi, I've been accepted to Fall 2014 to Cal and I am (or was) very excited. The problem is, my third quarter grades are absolutely horrendous. I am getting all C's and even 1 D (possibly)... I got very very lazy. I did ok first 2 quarters, but it looks like my final GPA for my SENIOR year will be around an 82-83.5, without any C's. I have 6 a-g courses atm, and I should be getting a B in all of them.

Grades: B/B/B/B/B/B Final Grades
My school:
A: 100-90
B: 80-89
C: 70-79.....

Now, I thought the 3.0 unweighted was an 80%. But now people are telling me that it is an 85% for a 3.0 unweighted. I know this is different for every school, but will this cause me to get rescinded?

My school doesn't do +/- on grades, so a B is a B. (Straight Bs'). With my 82-83.5 cumulative in senior year, will I get rescinded from UC Berkeley? Help, and thank you!

If you get D or lower in any class, you will be rescinded. If your school doesn’t do +/- then a 3.0 cumulative is all B’s, so you’ll be alright.

First of all, admission getting rescinded is never absolute or automatic if the conditions of admission are breached, they are looked at carefully, and situations of dire stress ( parent dying, diagnosis of severe illness) can be seen in light of a poor grade in your senior year.

Second, the conditions of admission are different for different students. The conditions of admission that applies to all students is:

At least a 3.0 GPA Unweighted, in each semester of your senior year.

No more Than 2 C’s

No D’s or F’s

Your official transcripts from grades 9-11 must match your grades indicated on the application

So is an 83 GPA below a 3.0 or not?

Honestly, I know a guy at my school who was all straight A’s and a fully ride to Cal and then got D’s and F’s during senior year which lead him to be rescinded. BUT, he made such a HUGE excuse that he got back in. But, DO NOT attempt this. Try to get senioritis in June and keep up and catch up. I know it’s hard, but try to bring those grades up :). Do something, plead or ask the teacher and you will be fine :)

It’s best not to think that they might actually forgive you. In my high school, a student got one D second semester senior year and his admissions were rescinded, and it happens more often than you’d think.

^Very true what dina said. DON’T procrastinate and WORK HARD. Get senioritis after senior checkout :D

I’m not going to get any C’s or D’s. I’m just worried that getting all low B’s (B/B/B/B/B/B) with a cumulative senior GPA of 83 will get me rescinded, because apparently a 3.0 is an 85… is this likely?

NoName12,

UC Berkeley does not use a 0-100 system in calculating GPA, so your school should have to convert that “83” GPA to a letter Grade, and whatever that letter grade average is, given that it is un-weighted, is used to see if your conditions of admissions has been broken.

Just to clarify, your school determines exactly what your GPA is on a 4.0 scale, not UC Berkeley.

An 80-89 is a B in my school, and does not account for +/-. So and 83 will be a B average, without any weight. This means that my conditions would not have been broken, right?

Then it would not be, but you should ask how your school calculates a numerical, 4 unit grade point average, just to be double sure.

But if a B is 3.0 then your good

Is it correct that all students(regardless of residency–california, out of state, international) are safe if their unweighted gpa is higher than 3.0? I read that nonresidents must earn a minimum gpa of 3.4 on their website, and I am really not sure whether it’s a weighted gpa of 3.4 or unweighted. I’m an international student who has a unweighted gpa of 3.34 which is lower than 3.4 and I am really scared…
