As we are nearing the fateful day where admissions decisions are given, I thought I'd share a little story about the Conditions of Admission, since I know there will be a slew of "how serious are they about maintaining my GPA?" and whatnot.

Part of my conditions of admission as a transfer were to complete the IGETC and send certification and (because I was a spring admit) send in transcripts from fall semester by February 7th or some such. I found out May last year (for the 06-07 admissions cycle) that I was not going to be able to satisfy IGETC, and told my counselor and we worked out that that was okay, I'd just satisfy breadth at Cal. This was changed on my conditions of admission as it appears on the myBerkeleyApp page.

Because of some bad stuff that happened during the winter as I was moving to Berkeley, I had to take an F in one of my classes. I called and asked if I could send them the winter quarter transcripts instead, after I'd retaken the class, and they said that was fine.

Today I get an email that says: we are canceling your admission because you did not satisfy your conditions of admission re: IGETC and transcripts. Please call us within 10 days to appeal.

I will get this fixed, but the lesson remains: they are SERIOUS about those conditions, and make sure you get everything in writing -- hand-written writing, apparently.
