condos

My son started out in Moore-Hill and it was a disaster, so in January we moved him into University Towers (an even worse disaster!). Whatever you do, don't go to University Towers - it's basically overflow housing for the fraternities and sororities and it's an absolute "Animal House". Now my son will be returning to Austin in a couple of weeks and he and a friend have rented a condo at 3200 Duval. Does anyone know about this complex/neighborhood? I'd hate to repeat what happened last year!

This?

It’s… really far away from the campus.

No, that’s Duval Road. I’m sure she means 32nd Street and Duval Street, about 4 blocks north of San Jac.

I know this is about condos; but I was wondering about apartment prices. My niece currently is at UT. She spent last year in the dorm. But she has family in the Austin area and is thinking of moving off campus. My son is wanting to transfer to UT. We are currently living in the Abilene area. I use to live in the Austin area. 1st time out on Ben White towards the mall. 2nd time was closer to Del valle. But it’s been quite a few years. If he decides to transfer to UT 2nd semester; (He’s somewhat approved); part of the decision will be for off campus apartments. Basically wondering what the availability and average prices are for rent. He might room mate with his cousin. That’s all part of the equation. She’ll move off if he transfers and apartment rent isn’t too bad. Any ideas? thanks a lot.

No personal experience, but here are some nearby apartments students have posted about here.

For moving in for second semester, I would suggest he check heylonghorn.com or craigslist in November or so to find a good spot to move into, somewhere where someone has left. I think most apartments near campus are rented by the year but the years do not generally start in January. He could check coops then too. Sometimes students leave unexpectedly or sometimes they do spring study abroad, opening up spaces.

But what about the OP’s question: How is the neighborhood near 32nd Street and Duval Street? I’ve never been there, and it’s not near any of the dorms or fraternity houses

What is that neighborhood like?
