Confessions of a "Grade-grubber"

So I just heard this term last week and thought it was pretty funny. Anyway, do A minuses matter at all in high school? As in, are they counted as 3.67 instead of 4.0 GPA, because somebody told me this was so. My school counts them as 4.0, but I heard someone say that colleges will redo your GPA and count them as 3.67. My honors English teacher decided not to accept my extra credit assignment which I turned in a few days late, even though I was sick. I talked to him about it but he won't do anything about it. This is preventing me from getting a flat A and I will probably end up with an A minus. Does this matter AT ALL as far as college apps, or should I do something about it?

also would like to know! that sounds freaky. i have had a few A- that showed up as As lol

It’s not the GPA that matters… it’s the final grades for each course that matter.

Well…my gpa is a 3.7 but my school has a screwed up grading scale. I heard * many * schools go by 90+ is an A…at my school, it has to be a 94 to be an A.

A 94-100
B 87-93
C --no idea
D --no idea
F 69 or below

B is 87-93??? What the? That is horrible - the classes must be easier otherwise most people would get B’s right?

anyway does anyone know? @ctgirl628, what do you mean? would an A- be worse than an A or not?

Well I can tell you this, bobtheboy. I know that if you apply to Georgia Tech, your A- will be converted into 4.0 A’s on their point-based grading scale (90-100 worth 4 points, 80-89 worth 3, etc… and then +0.5 for each AP. Add up your total points in core classes [Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Foreign Language], divide by total classes, and voila - out comes your GPA).

an A is an A dont trip…A- are considered A’s for colleges anyway to limit grade inflation etc…some schools its easy to get 99% and others u can barely pass with 90%…coleges know this

The classes are not very easy. Well, my core classes are easy * for me *. They are very slowly paced. We solely cover a chapter a day. French is my worst. I have a 93% B.

Most of my friends feel the same way, there are just a select few.

OP: it depends on the college. For example, UC’s do not look at +/- so even if your high school GPA is 3.67 you might have a “UC GPA” of 4.0 or whatever.

No, my high school GPA will also be 4.0. And apparently so will UC. :)

However, what will Ivy Leagues put my GPA as?

Lol just wondering, did you hear the term from one of my posts complaining about my school? I don’t hear people use this term a lot and it’s one of mah faves hehe

Stanford weights A- as 3.7. ugh

My school used to be a 96+ for an A and then this year it was changed to 93+

My school the only thing that counts is a 90

@ Stanford… Oh snap…My G.P.A is not gonna be pretty then >.>

I have mostly A’S and A minuses…

Shawty, I was expecting some dramatic and maudlin stuff. Son, I disappoint.

I have a 3.5.
It looks ugly and sad, but in reality my GPA is a bit over a 90.

I’ve met people with 3.8’s who have grades that are the same as mine, or bit lower. But they go to different schools.

Colleges will want them more than me. It’ so stupid. -_____-

I want the GPA that best reflects my grade.

Ehem The preferred term is grade-whore. You receive an A- for misuse. Here’s a Community College App. High Reach.

My school is:
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
65-69 D
0-64 F

So in terms of GPA, a 90 is equal to an 100. Can be good or bad :P

At mine, we have the same grading system as trumpetgrl. And you can make a 4.0 Uw by having everything above a 92. Weighted GPA’s are a whole another story

A- is generally equated to 3.7.
