Confessions of a high school drama victim

So, about 2 hours ago i got into a physical fight with a girl who rides my bus. We moved into this neighborhood last thursday and she immediately began to harass my 11 year old sister. Today she ran up behind me after a argument that she and my sis. had today and hit me from behind. I won't go into the gory details of the incident, but just to make it clear..IT WAS NOT MY FAULT!! I just moved here for goodness sake, but i reluctantly digress. It is just getting under my skin how more and more violent and aggressive students are being allowed into our school systems. I'm not saying that anyone who gets into an argument must be immediately suspended, but this girl has had many criminal instances (as reported to me by an officer) and she's violent. It isn't a race thing, it isn't a demographic thing anymore (we live in one of the nicer counties in Georgia), and the exact reason cannot be pin-pointed. I am just so frustrated! We can mind our own business, we can try to "talk things out" but some people don't respond to that. The result? Innocent, none aggressive kids get the same amount of crap that kids who actually do engage in such behavior do. What can be done?
Serious responses only. Is this a problem in your schools/buses/homes as well? What can be done??

Press charges. If she attacked you and is harassing you, it's illegal. It's not a problem in my current school district but it used to be a huge problem in my old school district. It got so bad that we had to pass through metal detectors to come into school. I never got jumped or anything but I know people that did. One girl got put into a coma before they finally filed assault chargers against a chick who had been harassing her.
It's not something you have to sit back and take. Take charge and file chargers against her. You and your sister shouldn't have to take things like that.
